In the city of Newark, SaulPaul joined Mayor Ras Baraka and several students from urban communities in a large gathering aimed at inspiring young people to pursue their hopes and dreams. This was the first conference of it’s kind in Newark, held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Students in attendance were very keen to share about their goals and the challenges they face living in the urban area. The theme of the conference was “Raise Your Voice.” It encouraged vocal discussion among students and experienced professionals. SaulPaul performed his signature songs and shared his message of hope, inspiring change and economic empowerment.

About Newark’s Urban Youth Conference

The city of Newark in New Jersey hosted it’s very first Urban Youth Conference on May 9th of 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It took place at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Mayor Ras Baraka opened the conference and the Director of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services Patrick Council closed the ceremony. The following deliberations took place at the conference: Youth, Education, Employment, Arts & Culture, Health, Public Safety & Criminal Justice, Critical Consciousness, Inter-Personal Skills, and Leadership. The goal of the conference was to engage the youth in discussions on pressing issues facing urban communities and to raise solutions. Over 600 high school students, college students, professionals and organizations-all gathered at the New Jersey Institute for this momentous gathering.
